The Grave Of War

Where is the grave of War, my friend?
Does it lie upon a mountain high, or in a desert vast,
Or down below a troubled sea, seething with the past,
Oh, can you tell me, quickly, and there me quickly send,
For then I’ll know it’s over now and Peace again descend.

They say it is a monster, a nightmare roused awake,
Ready deep within us, ugly, deadly, dark,
To spread chaos universal and snuff life’s feeble spark,
That feeds on sorrow, hatred, heartache,
And drinks deep to quell its hunger from a blood-filled lake.

And if no grave exists where rots its stinking head,
Then surely we must slay it, rid the world of pain and death,
But what’s been done to do it, or do I waste my breath,
On a quest that’s more than urgent, one I cannot shed,
But nor you nor they me answer, just weep for all dead.

    Dear sir,

Neither you nor others have ever bothered to explain to me (and others …) the importance – for Democracy – of the abysmal schooling of the masses (in Democracy), as a catalyst towards existing reality.

    Thanks again,

    E.T. .

I do not understand the comment-if you mean citizens not understanding democracy-well that depends on whether you are referring to capitalist or socialist democracy. But I have written on it a lot in my political essays in various publications, but as for poetry here is my view: https://christopher-black.com/2021/06/06/the-say-this-is-democracy/, or https://christopher-black.com/2017/02/15/speak-now-my-friends/, there are others.

        Hello,

It’s OK, sir. I have long been told I was generally unclear, confusing etc.

I am talking about the abysmal academic quality in the schools for the masses (nobody needs to ”understand” me, in case they happen to see it themselves. In which case, one should no longer have expectations from the masses – and call them ”brainwashed”) it’s more of a quarrel among some/few educated people, some on the side of the masses, some against them.

And those on the side of the masses distinguish themselves by … NOT calling for the (PROPER!) schooling of the masses – ever: not now, and not in the past.

        Thank you,

        Emanoil

        P.S.

About the honour of getting a reply from you: better too late than never!

If I have not replied to you before I apologise for my failing. You ask an important question-the education of the masses is in the hands of those who want to control the masses. Nevertheless, even a little knowledge can open the eyes of those able to see. But yes, the standard of education is not what once was. It is difficult to have intelligent conversations with more than a few now.

        Good afternoon, sir,

Thanks to Prof. Maria Nikolakaki (interviewed by Regis Tremblay), I finally found out that the subject has already amassed an army of protesters:

I’ve lived in two war zones, no soldier, nor civilian, no mammal survives war uninjured!
It’s also grinding the living planet into dust!
